Twelve women's teams will qualify (through a point system based on their competitive performance) for a pre-trials competition called the "Road to the Roar" which is being held in Prince George, BC from November 10-14. The competition format is a triple knockout.

Four teams from that competition will join four other teams that have automatically qualified for the curling trials based on their superior performance over the past two curling seasons. These eight women's teams will compete for the right to represent Canada at the 2010 Olympics at "The Roar of the Rings" in Edmonton from December 6-13. This will be a round robin competition format with the first place finisher advancing to the finals, while the second and third place teams meet in the semi-final.
